The Westlake Computer Club has set up a TV stand with Super Smash Bros every day during lunch for the past month or so. The club is trying to promote an audience for their upcoming event.
Every year, the Computer Club hosts two “Gaming Day” tournaments. This year’s upcoming tournament will be on Nov. 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Chap Court and it will consist of Gamecube’s very best, Super Smash Bros Melee, the computer’s best friend, Starcraft, and Xbox 360’s platinum selling Halo 3. The predicted winning Halo 3 team consists of team captains juniors Justin Noonan (level 50) and Kolton Lye (level 48). They haven’t permanently chosen their other two teammates yet. The probable contenders will be sophomores Vince Dutton (level 48), Douglas Jones (level 49), Doug Brustkern (level 40), and Evan Von Zur Muehlen (level 46). Counter Strike is not being included in this semester’s tournament but it will be there for free play. Starcraft is making its gaming day debut to replace Counter Strike. Competition will be particulary high in Halo 3 because of the game’s recent Sept. 25 release. Many competitors have been practicing since the day it came out. In the Super Smash Bros. tournament, sophomore Jeremy Cox is the returning runner-up with last year’s winner having graduated.
“I am excited for this year’s competition for the annual gaming tournament and I hope to bring out a victory!” Jeremy said.
Newcomers freshmen Matthew Chang and Mark Stone look to stop Jeremy from reaching the top. Those bringing their own equipment will receive a healthy discount.
