Pro-football player, aerospace engineer and special agent with the secret service are all careers that have been explored in the new activity hosted by the Vision Committee called “Power Lunches.” Power Lunches are seminars conducted by interesting members of our community during all three periods of lunch.
“It’s to provide opportunities for students to hear about interesting people in our community for the purpose of inspiring the kids to think about possibilities for the future,” said the organizer of the events BCIS teacher, Vicky Abney. “I hope the students will make a connection as well as experience fellowship and excitement.”
More than 100 students have gone to all of the Power Lunches combined, but the Vision Committee hopes to attract more to future lunches. The Vision Committee is a group of faculty and students that look at the long range plan for Westlake High School.
“I learned a lot about secret service agents, and there is free water and free goldfish. Bonus!” junior Colin McNally said.
While it is best to bring sack lunches, students can walk in late with lunch from the cafeteria.
Even though Power Lunches are done for the fall, Abney encourages students to watch for the new lineup starting in the spring.
