All Jazzed Up
-Brittany Parker
Audrey Brees life has some exciting accomplishments in it that some
girls only dream of having. Her dancing career and wish to be on Hyline
first formed when she was a mere 3 years old. She not only made the
team as a freshman, but served as first lieutenant this year.
Audrey Brees on:
Earliest memories of dancing
“I remember telling my mom once when I was about 5 that I
didn’t want to dance anymore ‘cause I
‘just didn’t like it anymore.’ Eventually
I realized I just couldn’t stop no matter how hard I
tried…I loved it too much.
Her choreographer
I don't remember what made me pick dance in the beginning, but my
teacher, Marianne Hakanson, had a lot to do with me becoming so
passionate about it. She has taught me dance since I was 7 years old,
and she choreographs all of my solos.
Dreams of Hyline
I have wanted to be on Hyline for as long as I can remember. My
earliest memories of Hyline are sitting with my brother's friends that
were on it when I was in kindergarten watching my brother play
football. I didn't have any real siblings on Hyline, but I always liked
to think those girls were my sisters since I only had smelly brothers.
Favorite style of dance
I enjoy all kinds of dancing. Hip hop and contemporary are probably my
two favorites. Contemporary is a mix of modern and lyrical—it
is really fun to choreograph.
Future college plans
I'm not sure what I'll end up doing with my life, but I'm definitely
not ruling dance out of the picture. Although I'm not majoring in it at
the University of Georgia next year, I may try to minor in it...we'll
see. Go Dawgs!
Extracurricular
Now that Hyline is over I don't dance 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I
am a Teen Teacher! I'm a squad leader for Harambe and Pedernales which
should be loads of fun. Being an officer on Hyline took up most of my
time, so I am not involved in tons of clubs, but I consider myself a
pretty spirited Chap. I was a Senior Girl this year and I always try to
go to as many Westlake events as possible.
Dancing beyond Westlake
I go out to Cedar Park to practice with my company every Wednesday
night from 5:30 to 10 with occasional weekend practices.”
