German exchange students to arrive in Austin in March
From March 23 to April 13, students from Germany are arriving in Austin to stay for three weeks. Two boys and 11 girls will come from all regions of Germany. Mostly students in German classes are housing them.
“Overall I'm psyched about it,” said junior Ryan Melde, who is housing one of the girls. “I'm a little bit nervous about the communication aspect because my parents don't know a word of German, and I'm not exactly fluent, so that'll be interesting. I'm really curious as to how my exchange student will respond to American food like barbeque, hamburgers and all. Will she like it or totally reject it?”
Another student, junior Brett Mele will host a student with whom she stayed over the summer when she visited Germany with the German class.
“I stayed with Tina over the summer and she was really nice and hospitable, so I am really looking forward to doing the same for her,” Brett said. “I want to take her to Zilker Park and all of my favorite restaurants. We will do very Austin type activities.”
