"The other day I was driving... somewhere, and I saw that exact same flamingo! And I was gonna buy it, but it was, like, $60 and we were driving really fast!"

Robertson to travel after teaching career

After 30 years of teaching, freshman English teacher Maddie Robertson has decided to start her retirement career.

“I have finally completed my goal of teaching, as I have taught at one of the most distinguished schools in the country,” Robertson said. “Now, I am ready to go travel to all the places I have always wanted to go, like Ireland. I have completed my last goal of being a teacher and I am making the switch from my goal list to a bucket list for retirement.”

Robertson has been known to make an impact on the students who sit in her classroom.

“Ms. Robertson is one of my favorite teachers of all time,” sophomore Henry Hibler said. “There was never a dull class period for English. She always made every lesson we had fun to learn and the whole class always loved participating.”

Throughout the school year, as students would fall behind or get tired of the exhausting days of school, Robertson was always there to add a little bit of encouragement to the day.

“School started to become a drag towards the middle of the year,” sophomore Hannah Campbell said. “Stepping into English every day always added a little bit of light to my monotonous day at school.”

Not only did she encourage her students, but Robertson also stood as an inspirational figure as well.

“Ms. Robertson is a sweetheart,” freshman Marissa Gonzales said. “I can go to her like she is my best friend or maybe even mom.”

As she “graduates” from teaching, Robertson reflects on her career.

“I love these kids,” Robertson said. “They make this job worthwhile. I hope that I have left a positive mark on this school and students, and I thank Westlake for the amazing opportunity of teaching.”
